Who Are You?
Wholemade by Jen is a small business run, as you can guess, by a girl named Jen. I’m passionate about environmental stewardship and healthy living, and research each of my recipes obsessively. I believe that it doesn’t take much to take care of yourself, and it shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg to do so.
Where do you get your recipes and ingredients?
I spend hours poring over books and the internet, looking for inspiration. Many products are a direct result of client requests: one client’s dream of a lotion that could be applied without the greasy, messy hands turned into the best-selling Lotion Stick. I dig deep into ingredients, reading up on health properties in all the herbs and oils I use, and formulate a recipe that’s nutrient-dense while using as few ingredients as possible.
Speaking of ingredients, you’ll never find unpronounceable chemicals on my labels. Or “natural” flavors or artificial preservatives. I think my ingredient lists are the cleanest ones out there! Most of my ingredients are certified organic, and all of them are sourced through fair-trade agreements and/or ethically and sustainably harvested. The essential oils are tested rigorously and the organic herbs are harvested under strict conditions. The shea butter and cocoa butter are organic and fair-trade. You want your money to back your beliefs. I agree!
How do you make your products, and how long do they last?
All products are handmade in small batches, to ensure the highest quality control. My only preservatives are vitamin E oil (non-GMO-based) and rosemary antioxidant, so the scrubs and creams are best consumed within 90 days of purchase. The butter- and oil-based products such as the Face Serum and the Lotion Stick will last quite a bit longer – not that it’ll still be around in a year!
Are your products vegetarian, or vegan?
Nearly all of my products are vegetarian. There is, however, (sustainably sourced) beeswax in many of the items, which is not considered vegan.
What's your shipping policy?
I calculate shipping based on weight, not cost, so I can keep the shipping cost as low as possible for you. I generally ship USPS Priority Mail, to get your goodies to you as fast as possible! Let me know if you'd prefer something else and we'll work it out.
Why don’t you make (fill in the blank)?
For a variety of reasons: perhaps I’ve tried to manufacture “it” but can’t without compromising my ingredient standards. Or perhaps I don’t really think people super-duper NEED “it” and won’t make up a bunch of fluffy product just to take your money. Or perhaps I haven’t made “it” because I haven’t thought of “it”! So give me a shout and tell me your idea!
